      • Exposes facade of families superior reputation
      • Accepts his own responsibility, wants to change his actions + mindset, cannot return to the way things were, affected by the consequences of Eva's death
    • We all helped to kill her
      • Collective pronoun of we refers to the family as a whole - sees them as all responsible
      • Accepts that thier actions have consequences, feels a sense of regret - stand on the side of socialism.
    • I wasn't in love with her or anything
      • Dismisses the relationship he had with Eva, downplaying it to distance himself from the responsibility + pain of reality
