    • Euthanasia
      • Christianity
        • Life is sacred, taking life is wrong. Murder is against the Ten Commandments, do not murder. Hospices offer alternative care, liberal Christians may allow it as the most loving thing to do
      • Uk law
        • Illegal and considered either man slaughter or murder. Carries a sentence of life in prison. Hospices and palliative care offer pain relief and comfort for those at the end of their life.
      • Sikhism
        • Life has a divine spark and is sacred. No one should take action to end a life. Sikhs believe they should perform sewa and serve those who are ill and dying through hospice care.
    • Abortion
      • christianity
        • We should be compassionate and allow it  if the mother’s life is in danger. It is moral evil because life is a gift from God
      • Uk law
        • Legal before 24 weeks the agreement of two doctors
      • Sikhism
        • Life is a gift from Waheguru and an abortion gets in the way of Waheguru’s creative work. Life begins at fertilisation so ending this life is a sin. Abortion may be acceptable if the mother’s life is at risk or the pregnancy was a result of ****
    • Funerals
      • Sikhism
        • Body is bathed and dressed in clean clothes. Amritdhari sikhs have the 5Ks placed on them. Funeral is held I. The Gurdwara in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib. Special Ardas prayers are recited. Body is cremated as it is seen as clothing for the soul. Ashes may be scattered in the Punjab in the water from where Sikhism began or scattered in a local river.
      • Christianity
        • Last rites may be said by a priest to clear a person of their sins before death to stop them from going to Purgatory. Funeral is in a church to be close to God. Candles lit - reminder Jesus is the light of the world. Communion or Eucharist reminder of jesus’ Sacrifice. Readings from the bible to remind them of eternal life. Cremation or burial , some allow cremation as the soul is thought to be separate from the body.
    • How the world began
      • Monotheistic religions (religions with one god) such as Christians or Sikhs believe the world was created by an all powerful (omnipotent) God.
        • Literalist Christians believe that it happened as said in the bible (6 days with 1 day rest) non literalist Christians think the story teaches us that God made the world.
        • Sikhs believe that Waheguru created everything they don’t have a creation story, but reference is made throughout the mool mantra to suggest that Waheguru is responsible for all existence. They are happy to accept scientific ideas but say that Waheguru used the Big Bang to create.
      • The Big Bang theory suggests that time and space began 15 billion years ago. It says the universe began from a singularity, an infinitely tiny point that was infinitely hot and dense and as it expanded sub atomic particles and atoms began to appear. This led to stars and planets being formed. Scientists posited the Big Bang theory based on background radiation which they believe is left over from the initial expansion

        • The world and everything in it should be respected and protected as part of God’s creation
          • ‘You made them rulers over the works of your hands ‘

        • God has made you a custodian (a trustee to care for the world ) You will be judged on your use on animals and the world
      • Humanists
        • We should look after the world for future generations
    • Judgement heaven and hell
      • Christianity
        • Dualism (soul and body are separate) good souls go to heaven ; bad souls go to hell. Soul lives on and is united with God
          • ‘In my father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?’
          • ‘’They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever’
          • ‘There men will weep and gnash their teeth’
      • Humanists
        • Death is the end and no soul exists
      • Sikhism
        • Samsara - cycle of birth and rebirth. Sleep, person goes to sleep and wakes up refreshed ready for a new life. Body is a vessel for the soul. Bad karma results in rebirth of a worse life, good karma gets you closer to mukti. The soul is immortal and goes through many life forms until it is one with Waheguru (mukti)
