- Energy and Life
- Energy ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
- Living things use fuels as well. One of the most important compund that cells use to store and release energy is ATP.
- ATP can easily release and store by forming bonds between its phosphate groups. It makes it important useful as a basic source of all cells.
- Storing Energy: When a cell has energy available, it can store small amounts of it by adding phosphate groups to ADP molecules producing ATP.
- Releasing Energy: Cells can release the energy stored in ATP by controlled breaking of the chemical bonds between the second and the third phosphate groups.
- Hetrotrophs and Autotrophs
- Organisms that obtain food by consuming other living things are known as Hetrotrophs.
- They get their food by eating plants such as grasses, humans, etc...
- Organisms that make their own food are calles Autotrophs.
- Untitled
- The process by which autotrophs use the enegy of sunlight to produce high enegy carbohydrates. Sugars and starches that can be used as food, known as Photosynthesis.
