  • END of the COLD WAR
    • REALISTS believe that the end of the CW was a SHOCK to the overwhelming majority of REALIST THEORIES
    • The SU, under GORBACHEV volunteered to END its MILITARY & TERRITORIAL DOMINATION over WESTERN-EUROPE
      • This was where it broke away its non-Russian republics
      • This was NOT WITHOUT OUTSIDE PRESSURE
    • REALISTS believe that the CW could only END through military DEFEAT or DECLINE in the POWER of 1 of the SUPERPOWERS
      • True as in the 70s & 80s the SU's POWER & INFLUENCE DECLINED
    • HOWEVER, BIPOLARITY has NOT completely DISAPPEARED due to MILITARY MATTERS
    • LIBERALS believe that MORALITY REMAINED at the HEART of INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMACY
      • They PREDICTED the END of the CW a little BETTER than REALISTS
        • NEVERTHELESS, since the 70s, LIBERALS HIGHLIGHTED general trend of CO-OPERATION, away from military power
    • Tendencies towards DETERENCE due to the NUCLEAR ARMS RACE
      • SU'S RELUCTANCE to USE MILITARY FORCE to maintain its CONTROL over , EASTERN-EUROPE, due to ECONOMIC BENEFITS it would bring, which ENDED EAST-WEST RIVALRY
        • DETERMINES LIBERAL'S view of TRADE NOT WAR
