- The cult of Gloriana was shown as a restorer of the true religion. It was a herald of a new age of harmony/progress, the golden age. Also showed the virgin queen, Elizabeth was married to the people/country. Gods chosen instrument.
- Maintained support through propaganda in order to reinforce image of the virgin queen. Gave up her happiness for the sake of her country.
- Deborah (restorer of Israel). virginity used as a symbol of power, and to mask fears of her age and reduced power.
