  • Electromagnetic Waves
    • All electromagnetic waves are transverse.
    • The electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light in a vacuum.
    • Electromagnetic waves with longer wavelengths and lower frequencies have a low energy so they are the least dangerous e.g. radiowaves.
      • Waves with a shorter wavelength and a higher frequency are the most dangerous because they have a high energy.
    • 1. Radio waves
      • Radio waves are used to broadcast TV and radio signals and to transmit satellite signals.
    • 2. Microwaves
      • Microwaves are used for satellite communication and transmitting signals from mobile phones.
      • Microwave ovens use microwaves to heat up food.
      • Microwaves can cause internal heating of body tissues.
