      • A chemical substance that affects the way your body works.
      • Your brain (CNS) and body are affected.

      • Antibiotics/ Painkillers (medicinal)- Use to treat bacterial infections or block pain.
      • Alcohol (recreational)- Acts as anti- depressant, decreases brain activity.
      • Nicotine/ Caffeine (Recreational)Acts as a stimulant, increases alertness and blood pressure.

      • Class A (Ecstacy/ Cocaine/ Heroine/LSD)
        • Ecstasy-Increased alertness, intensity of surroundings. Heart problems, kidney damage.
        • Heroine- creates feeling of well being, strong painkiller. High risk of overdose, addictive.
      • Class B- Amphetamines /Cannabis
        • Cannabis- hallucinogenic mental health problems.
      • Class C -Tranquilizers
        • Calm, relaxing affects,lower immune system, forgetful.
    • what is addiction?
      • When someone feels they need the drug everyday.
      • They may suffer withdrawal symptoms.
      • They cant manage without it and become dependent on it.

    • Medicinal- Used to treat disease or relieve symptoms E.g. antibiotics or painkillers.
