- tell you how far something has travelled
- the slope at any point gives the speed of the object
- flat sections is where its stopped
- steeper graph means its going faster
- curves represent acceleration
- a steepening curve represents acceleration
- a levelling up curve means its slowing down
- you can find speed=gradient=change in vertical/change in the horizontal
- if the graph is curved draw a tangent to the curve at that point
