  • preparation for year 2 dispensing exam
    • General prescription requirement
      • signature of prescriber in indelible ink
      • Name and address of prescriber and patient
      • The date of the prescription = valid for six month
      • indication of prescribe qualification
      • Age of patient if patients if under 12 years old

      • These are private prescription only
      • if repeat is stated then after dispense repeat the number of time stated after
      • if repeat not stated the repeat once so dispense twice
      • Schedule 2 and 3 CDs are nor repeatable

    • Dispensed lable
      • name of patient
      • name and address of supplying pharmacy
      • name of medicine
      • direction for use
      • percussion relating to using  the medicine
      • "Keep out of reach and sight of children"
    • Emergency supply
      • Request of a prescriber
        • relevant prescriber
        • stratified the prescription cannot be provided immediately
        • prescription will be received within 72 hours
        • Directions according the prescriber's direction
        • no CD 1,2, or 3 drugs except phenobarbital for epilepsy. (swiss/ EEA cannot prescribe CD drugs)
        • Record kept in private register where
          • should include the normal requirement but should have an extra date (date when actual prescription was received)
          • Should be indicated "Emergency supply"
      • Request from the patent
        • interview the patient
        • satsfied there is an immediate need
        • the patient must have been previously taking the medication
        • Dose must be appropriate refer to the PMR, electronic health record, repeat prescription slip or labelled medicine box)
        • not CD 1,2 or 3 except phenolbarital for the treatment of epilepcy
        • length of time: 5 days max for CD 4&5 and phenolbarbital. 30 days for POM however for insulin,ointment cream or inhaler u give the smallest packaging size and oral conraceptive u give a full treatment cycle

          • same requirement but no doctor information because there was no doctor involved
          • indicate it was an emergency supply
          • indicate the nature of the emergency
          • Dispense label must indicate Emergency supply
    • Controlled drug
      • legislation: The misuse of drugs act 1971
      • Classifications
        • Schedule 2 (CD POM)
        • Schedule 1 (CD lic POM)
        • Schedule 3 (CD no reg POM)
          • E.G.: buprenorphine temazepam, midazolam, phenobarbital, gabapentin and pregablin
        • Schedule 4 (CD Benz/ Anab POM)
          • E.G.: CD4-1 most benzo like diazepam or non-benzo hypnotics like zopiclone and sativex
          • E.G.: CD4-2 most anabolic/ androgenic steroid. growth hormone
        • Schedule 5 (CD INV P/ POM)
      • CD 1,2 and 3 UK prescriber only
      • CD 1,2,3 prescriptions is not repeatable
      • Invoice must be retained for two years for CD 3,5
      • Prescription requirement
        • prescriber signature and address (address must be within the UK
        • date which is valid for 28 days
        • Total Quanity must be in words and figures (CD 2,3)
          • Can amend if one is missing (
        • Formulation / strength/ dose
        • Patient name, address
        • Dental prescriptions  must state "for dental treatment only"
      • record to be made in CD  register for schedule 2 and sativex
