    • the breakdown of carbohydrates proteins and fats into small soluble substances that can be absorbed into the blood
    • lipases and  proteases are used in biological detergents and enzymes are used in the manufacture of food and drink
    • digestion happens inside the gut
    • food is moved in the digestive system by a process called peristalis
      • this is the contractions of two sets of muscles in the walls of the gut one set runs along the gut while the other set circles it  their wave like contractions create a squeezing action moving down the gut
