    • in general, any person involved in physical activity will need a greater intake than those that are not (if BMR is similar)
    • endurance-based performer
      • endurance training makes athlete better at metabolising fats therefore fat intake needs to be increased
      • needs to be a larger intake of carbohydrates to satisfy the energy demands of the elite performer
      • higher metabolism - require more minerals and vitamins
    • power performer
      • increase in carbohydrate intake because of the energy demands
      • increase in protein intake because of the increase in muscle repair and growth
