    • Plurality
      • Refers to the result of an election where the winner only has to obtain more votes than any of their opponents
      • Doesn't mean the winner has an absolute majority
    • Proportional systems
      • Competing parties are awarded seats in the legislature in proportion to the votes cast for them
      • A directly proportional system would award 40% of seats to a party that won 40% of the popular vote
    • Majority systems
      • Elect a single candidate
      • Designed to ensure the winner can claim support of an overall majority of voters
    • Hybrid systems
      • Mixture of two systems
