    • Universality and Bias
      • Research findings only apply to groups of people studied
      • Results from Western culture studied can't be applied to the world
      • Kilham/Mann replicated Asch/ Milgram's studies in non-western cultures with different results
      • Cultural Bias = other cultures being judged abnormal if behaviour deviates from a particular culture
    • Ethnocentrism

    • Cultural Relativism
      • Etic/emic defined by Berry in terms of human behaviour
      • Etic = looks at behaviour from outside a culture and attempts to describe it as universal (Ainsworth)
      • Emic = works from inside cultures and identifies behaviours specific to it
    • In 1992, 64% of researchers were American and 94% of studies were conducted in North America
