- Etic/emic defined by Berry in terms of human behaviour
- Etic = looks at behaviour from outside a culture and attempts to describe it as universal (Ainsworth)
- Emic = works from inside cultures and identifies behaviours specific to it
- In 1992, 64% of researchers were American and 94% of studies were conducted in North America
