- Crime against the person: example include assault, murder or ****.
- Crime against the state: going against the Government eg. selling Government secrets or terrorism.
- Crime against property: includes vandalism, trespassing and burglaries.
- Religious Offences: includes committing sins and not following the 10 commandments.
- Aims of Punishment
- Protection- to protect the public from the offender.
- Retribution- allows the victim to get revenge: "An eye for an eye."
- Deterrence- puts people off committing crimes.
- Reparation- criminal can make up for their offence
- Reformation- makes them into a better person
- Vindication- gives people justice, making sure the law is respected.
- Types of crime:
- The Bible says: "obey the authorities"
- Some people may use their conscience to decide right from wrong.
- Breaking rules or doing some 'bad' things might not be illegal.
