  • A crime is when the law is broken.
    • Crime and Punishment
      • Types of crime:
        • Crime against the person: example include assault, murder or ****.
        • Crime against the state: going against the Government eg. selling Government secrets or terrorism.
        • Crime against property: includes vandalism, trespassing and burglaries.
        • Religious Offences: includes committing sins and not following the 10 commandments.
      • Aims of Punishment
        • Protection- to protect the public from the offender.
        • Retribution- allows the victim to get revenge: "An eye for an eye."
        • Deterrence- puts people off committing crimes.
        • Reparation- criminal can make up for their offence
        • Reformation- makes them into a better person
        • Vindication- gives people justice, making sure the law is respected.
    • The Bible says: "obey the authorities"
    • Some people may use their conscience to decide right from wrong.
    • Breaking rules or doing some 'bad' things might not be illegal.
