  • This approach is used to explain how memory works and opposes views that there are set memory stores shown by the MSM.
    • The levels of processing model seeks to explain what we do with the information rather than how it is stored. How deeply we consider or process info dictates how long the memory lasts for.
      • Information received by the brain will be transferred to the LTM and therefore remembered more if the info is:
        • - Considered    -Understood  - Has meaning
      • According to this approach, the meaning of the information is much more relevant than mere repetition.
    • How much this information is considered is called the 'depth of processing'. The deeper the information is processed, the longer the memory or memory trae will last.
      • MEMORY TRACE: when the brain cells retain or store info.
