  • Constitution and its functions
    • Every country in the world operates its political system within the constraints of a constitution.
      • Some of these are written documents and this is called codification
    • functions
      • -They determine how political power should be distributed within the state.
      • -determine the balance of power between government and parliament, between prime minister and between two chambers that are bicameral
      • Constitutions establish the political processes that make the system work
      • Normally states limits of governmental power. UK parliament however does not have these restraints
      • Aswell as limiting power, it asserts the rights of citizens
        • Most countries have a bill of rights, a statement which prevents government from infringing on citizen rights.
      • Constitutions establish the rules by which nationality is established and who is entitled to be a citizen,
