  • CONFORMITYThe influence of others (larger or more dominant group) can cause individuals to change their behaviour = social influence
    • InternalisationGoing with the majority and believing their views...you've internalised views and they are now your own!
      • Often happens if unsure of 'correct way' to behave..look to others for information = Informational social influence
    • Compliance: Going with things (majority) even if you disagree
      • You do this to appear 'normal'. Going against majority might lead to rejection or exclusion = normative social influence
    • Identification.Conforming to what's expected of you to fulfil a social role.
      • Changing your behaviour to fit into a specific role in society (nurse) or behaviour of a role model.
