    • THERMAL CONDUCTION
    • Only occurs in solids (metals are very good)
    • As a solid is heated, particles vibrate more and gain kinetic energy.
      • The Kinetic Energy is passed on to adjacent particles through collisions which causes more vibrations.
    • In Metals
      • Metal atoms exist as positively charged metal ions in a lattice structure. They are surrounded by negatively charged electrons
        • Some electrons are free and able to move within the metal. When these electrons collide with those in colder regions, they transfer kinetic energy which heats the colder regions.
