- The narrator grieves for the love they have lost.
- Water is a powerful force,so the use of water-related mataphors to decribe the love shows how powerful it was and how deeply the loss of it has affected the narrator
- Repetition of content from the first lines of the poem acts as a conclusuion. The narrator has explained the complaint and rounds off the arguement, bring the reder back to the present situation and their sense of loss.

- Language: fountain shows that he could be crying a lot for it to relate to a fountain. Also it shows how much he's crying if the writer is referring to it as a fountain.
