  • Community Support
    • Early Years Foundation Stage
      • Sets standards for all children from birth to 5 years in development,learning and care
        • Early Years Action provides extra help for children who need it e.g. speech therapy
      • EYFS profile must be completed which records observations of the 6 areas of learning
        • These are personal, social and emotional development, language, concepts, intelligence, physical and creative development
      • Parents support this by encouraging maths skills and reading/writing skills
    • Child Care
      • Babysitters
        • They must know where the parents are, phone numbers, first aid box, bedtime routine, food and drink, allergies
      • Creches and Out of School Clubs
        • Advantage: attached to workplace, open all year round, parent can visit in breaks, socialisation with other children
        • Disadvantages: Large, can't send an ill child in
      • Relatives
        • Advantages: one-to-one care, familiar environment, flexible hours, close bond with child, come to childs house, free, follows routine
        • Disadvantages: too attached, no mix with other children, may not be child proof, strain on relationships
      • Child Minders
        • Advantages: flexible hours, experienced, qualifications, pick up and drop off, homely environment, close bond with child, adapt routine, siblings, community care
        • Disadvantages: risk of infections, can't look after ill children, no backup plan if child minder is ill
      • Nannies and Au Pairs
        • Advantages of nannies: qualified, flexible hours, live with family
        • Disadvantages with nannies: very expensive, own room, lack of privacy
        • Advantages of Au Pairs: cheaper, help children, household tasks
        • Disadvantages: not registered by ofsted, own room, language problems, short time stay
