- Communication and Cell Signalling
- Hormone Receptors
- Inslulin Receptor
- Insulin is released from Beta Cells in the pancreas in response to increased blood levels
- Protein Molecule that attaches to Inslulin receptors on the Plasma membrane
- When Insulin attaches to its receptor it triggers internal responses in the cell that lead to more Glucose channels being present in the membrane
- Medicinal Drugs - Interfearing with receptors
- A Number od Medicinal drugs have been developed that are complimentary to the shape of a receptor molecule
- Block Receptors, Beta-Blockers are used to preven heart muscle from increasing the heat rate in people. Some drugs mimic a neurotransmitter that some inderviduals cannot produce
- Hijackinjg Receptors
- Viruses enter cells by binding with receptros on the cells plasma membrane. They have a shape that fits into a receptor, it will reproduce inside the cell (by using the cell DNA) and eventually distroy it.
- Inslulin Receptor
- Defintion
- Cells communicate with one another by signals. Many molecules act as signals - Some signal during processes taking place inside cells; others signal from one cell to another
- Cells may signal to white Blood Cells so they are not destroyed by the cell. Glycoproteins perform this job!
- Hormone Receptors
- Viruses enter cells by binding with receptros on the cells plasma membrane. They have a shape that fits into a receptor, it will reproduce inside the cell (by using the cell DNA) and eventually distroy it.
