Coasts

Hey guys this is just a brief overview of the topic, I hope it's vaguely useful...

very basic run through of all the stuff we need to know for OCR A level georgraphy COASTS.

Where is says processes on the mind map, I'm referring to subaerial processes, wearthering and erosin - that kind of thing, didn't want to list out that kind of stuff

please give me some credit if you like this resource... good luck guys :)

DISCLAMER: This is not detailed enough for all your revision. I am not a geography teacher, please trust more qualified people than myself if they disagree with any of the information that is on the minnd map

  • Coasts
    • Sediment cells
      • A stretch of coastline along which the movement of sediment is largely self contained.
        • Silver strand spit
          • - Tijuana river
          • Damns, groynes along along island beach, jetty which causes wave refraction, sediment further out than Zuniga shoal.
          • Has ment that the sediment cell is becoming deprived of sediment - pos feedback cycle. UNlikely that the damage will ever really be fixed.
    • High energy coastlines
      • North Yorkshire coastline between salt house and flamborough head.
      • Large fetch,  local geology, lithologique, sub aerial processes, tides, climate , past climates weathering,
      • Robin hoods bay, flamborough head and
      • Robin hoods bay, selwicks bay, Filey bay
        • 1. High chalk cliffs and shore cut platform
        • 2. Complex inlet
        • Wide sweeping beaches and low rise clay cliffs.
          • How humans have modified the coast unintentionally for industry
            • Mangawhai Pakiri beach sediment has been removed for the construction industry.
    • Low energy coastline
      • Nile delta
        • Why formed
          • -continental shelf
          • - small fetch - in Mediterranean
          • High rates of sediment input from the Nile delta which exceed low rates of removal
          • Positivé feed-back cycle, means that the delta will continue to grow.
        • How humans are messing it up
          • Construction of the assai han damn which is trap trapping sediment and preventing the delta from growing. This means that sediment removal is now exceeding sediment input for the first time in over 1000 years.
