  • Coastal Erosion - Holderness
    • Coastline is 61km long - stretches from Flamborough Head to Spurn Head
    • Erosion is causing the cliffs to collapse - the material then gets washed away causing the coast to retreat
    • 1.8m of land is lost every year - in some places eg Great Cowden, the rate od erosion is over 10m per year in recent years
    • Located in East Yorkshire & has one of the fastest eroding coastlines in Europe
    • Powerful Waves - Longshore Drift
      • Holderness faces the prevailing wind direction which brings waves all the way from the Arctic. Waves increase in power over this long distance so the coast is battered by highly erosive waves
    • Easily Eroded Rock Type
      • The cliffs are mostly made of soft  boulder clay. It's likely to slump when it's wet
    • Coastal Defences
    • Narrow Beaches
