  • Clinical Characteristics
    • Profound disruption of cognition and emotion - affects language, perception and sense of self
    • Diagnosis of schizophrenia - under DSM-IVR, diagnosis of schizophrenia requires at least a one-month durationof two or more positive symptoms
    • Positive symptoms - excess or distortion of normal symptoms eg. delusions, experiences of control. hallucinations, disordered thinking
    • Negative symptoms - diminution or loss of normal functions eg.  affective flattening, alogia and avolition
