  • Chemotherapy-Drugs
    • Antipsychotic drugs
      • Primarily to combat +symptoms of schizophrenia
      • Block action of dopamine (neurotransmitter) by binding them to receptors, not stimulating
      • atypical,(clozapine) temporarily occupy dopamine receptors the rapidly disconnects allowing normality. Lower levels of side effects compared to conventional.
    • Antidepressant drugs
      • Depression  thought due to insufficient amounts of serotonin produced on nerve endings.
      • Either reducing rate of re-absorption, blocking enzyme. Both increase amount of serotonin to neighbouring cells.
      • SSRI's: blocking transporter that absorbs serotonin, more is left in synapse prolonging activity. Transmission easier.
    • Anti-anxiety drugs
      • Benzodiazepines (BZs)
      • Beta-blockers (BBs)
