    • Metal Carbonates
      • Metal carbonate + acid = a salt + water + CO2
        • eg. calcium carbonate + hydrochloric acid = calcium chloride + water +carbon dioxide
      • Limestone (alkaline) is mainly calcium carbonate
        • Limestone is used to make cement and glass
          • And to control acidity in soil
      • Test for carbon dioxide = milky limewater
      • Limewater is alkaline and CO2 is acid so they react and form tiny insoluble particles that don't let let through
    • Thermal decomp. of carbonates
      • Calcium carbonate decomposes if we heat it
        • This produces quicklime
    • Titrations
      • Left over = in excess
      • End point = when both the acid and alkali are completely neutralised
