- Increase in immigrants after WW2 as new tower blocks needed to be built.
- Typical primary school has around 43 languages. Most ethnically diverse borough in UK.
- Established in 1965. Traditionally, there was a strong white working class population (due to the docks 1855-1921).
- Increase in migration to East London in past 15 years (70,000 immigrants have moved).
- Out of the total population (308,000) the White British population has dropped from 82,000 to 52,000.
- White population is the minority, with Asian and Eastern Europeans making up over half .

- Pros - Stratford tube station helped connect the area to the rest of London. Brought £9 billion of investment to East London.

- Trains transport from north to south east london, bringing a new type of commuter.
- Known for its multi-culturalism.
