    • Changing nature of the extended family
      • the traditional extended family is declining. higher standard of living and the emergence of the welfare state have contributed to the decline of the extended family. links between family are strong due to new technology. Although grandparents are being seen as live-in child-minders if both parents work.
    • Changing roles within the family
      • Women as more likely to work as well as men, and make a larger impact to family income. Househusbands are now more common then years ago. greater rights in employment means that women can get better chances at high end jobs.
    • Smaller family size
      • Since 1901 births have fell. More babies born after second world war and during the 1960's baby boom.
    • Increased in childless women
      • More women as making an impacts in the labour market. 1/4 of women remain childless. People who choose to have children later on in life, find it hard to conceive then are find that they cannot have children.
    • increase in older mothers
      • Women are choosing to have a full education which include degrees before having children, meaning that they become much older before have children.
    • The changing divorce rate
      • New marriages end up in divorce and this means it can make more of an impact on children being born.
    • More step families
      • The number of re-marriages for one or both parents has increased.
    • More cohabitation
      • When a couple share an intimate relationship living together without being married

      • In 2005 43%births occured outside of marriage, Mosy births outside of mariage are registered jointly, suggesting that the parents live together at the time of the birth of the child.
    • Increase in lone parent families
      • Formed due to divorce, seperation, widowhood or births to single women outside of mariage. The causes of increase are changes in divorce legislation and social acceptablily of lone parents. Lone parents need affordable housing and childcare so they can go back to work.
    • More non-dependent children living with parents
      • A larger number of adults still live with parents due to housing being to high or shortage of low costing housing. This could be a higher standard of living to these households.
    • Civil partnerships
      • Its a legal relationip, which can be registered by two people of the same sex. Adoption is aloud in civil partnership and lsingl;e people, meaning this can chnage the means that this type of family unit with become part of diverse nature of UK familiees.
    • More one-person households
      • Penisoners are lvijng alone due to not having had children or windowed. Women live longer then men therfore alot of penisoners living alone are women. Also the Divorce and seperatyion have increased thereforew people are lviing alone during most of there lifettime.
    • Marriages and divorce
      • The number off marriages are decreasing, while the number of divorces are divorce.
