- AIM- To test whether an asthma spacer device known as a 'funhaler' could provide a positive reinforcement to improve adherence in child asthmatics compared to devices in current use.

- METHOD- Field experiment using a repeated measures design.
- DV- the compliance level to the prescribed medical regimes.
- Took place in participants homes over a two week period.
- Then used the 'funhaler device' this was a type of operant condition by self reinforcement as the 'funhaler' had incentive toys such as spinning discs and whistle(distraction technique).
- After the two week period the parents then completed a matched item questionnaire to allow comparison between the two devices.
- RESULTS- The findings shown that the compliance was higher when using the funhaler with children showing greater satisfaction and willingness to use the funhaler compared to the standard inhaler.
- The parents attitude to medicating their children were also more positive when using the funhaler compare to the standard device.
- 61% of the parents felt completely happy when using the funhaler device compared to the standard device of which only 10% felt completely happy.
