    • The abdication crisis
      • the new king stated that things had to be done after visiting depressed villages but he was attracted to wallis simpson who wasn't a queen figure.- when he said he was going to marry her it led to a constitutional crisis
        • Baldwin didn't agree with this and refusedmajortyof MPs and the labour party supported him and also backed up by public opinion- the king chose to abdicate
    • Radical political groups
      • BUF; the british union fascists formed by Oswald Mosley brought some Italian fascim to britain. people joined due to the traditional parties doing little about unemployment, labour member joined due to not believing in labour any longer and also people who wanted better relationships with HItler as they wanted to avoid war
        • Never became a mass movement  and by 1935 its numbers had declined as due to all there violence and how closely associated they were becoming with the radical ideas od nazi germany
      • The communist party go GB, provided the middle and working class with the idea of a more equal and progressive society also due to the BUF and labour party collapsing it gained more members, they were the ones carrying the fight against fascism made them more attractive (spanish civil war)
        • Event of threat from the communist party, they played key roles in major strikes, but the National government never felt seriously worries about it  as police kept a close eye on there activities
      • Factors limiting political extremism
        • National government policies: legislations passed t curb activity (public order act- stopped people wearing political uniforms- face the police more control) and it had a source of stability so didn't depend of allies and set up policies of appeasement and for now further war gained public support
        • Labour movement- opposed any link with communists, they rejected all attempts to fight against fascism
        • The economy; the communist party was fighting for unemployment but this had been reduced by 1937 and a more commutable lifestyle was been developed
