  • Cells
    • Animal Cells
      • Nucleus - contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
      • Mitochondria - site of aerobic respiration - transfers needed energy to the cell
      • Cytoplasm - gel-like substance where most chemical reactions occur - contains enzymes that control the reactions
      • Cell Membrane - holds cell structure together and controls what goes in and out
      • Ribosomes - site of protein synthesis
      • Sub-cellular structures - different parts of a cell
      • Eukaryote - made of eukaryotic cells - complex cells
    • Plant Cells
      • Rigid Cell Wall - made of cellulose - supports and strengthens the cell
      • Permanent Vacuole - contains cell sap (a weak solution of sugar and salts)
      • Chloroplasts - site of photo-synthesis - makes food for the plant - contains green substance called chlorophyll, which absorbs needed light for photo-synthesis
      • Eukaryote - made of eukaryotic cells - complex cells
    • Bacteria Cells
      • Single circular strand of DNA that floats freely in the cytoplasm
      • Plasmids - small rings of DNA
      • No chloroplasts or mitochondria
      • Prokaryote - made of prokaryotic cells - a single-celled organism
