  • CARDIAC CYCLE
    • (1) ATRIAL SYSTOLE
      • Ventricles RELAX
        • Atria CONTRACT, volume decreases, pressure increases
          • Blood pushed through AV valve into ventricles
            • (Slight increase in ventricular pressure while blood flows in)
    • (2)VENTRICULAR SYSTOLE
      • Atria RELAX
        • Ventricles CONTRACT, volume decreases, pressure increases
          • AV valves CLOSE as pressure in ventricles is above that of atria
            • SL valves OPEN as pressure in ventricles is above that of arteries
              • Blood pushed through semilunar valve INTO ARTERIES
    • (3)DIASTOLE
      • Atria and Ventricles RELAX
        • SL valves CLOSE as pressure in arteries is higher than in ventricles
          • Pressure higher in veins so blood flows INTO ATRIA, increasing pressure
            • Pressure of atria higher than ventricles so AV valve OPENS
              • Blood flows INTO VENTRICLES
