- Carbohydrates and Proteins
- Carbohydrates
- Glucose is a hexose sugar
- Formulas is C6H2O6
- Other monosaccharides are Fructose and Galactose
- Isomers: same chemical formula but different structure
- All monosaccharides are soluble so can be absorbed into the blood
- They join together by condensation and separate by hydrolysis
- Glucose is a hexose sugar
- Proteins
- Large molecules (polymers) made up of amino acids (monomers)
- A wide variety of roles
- Structural: Muscle, skim, ligaments, hari
- Catalytic: All enzymes are proteins
- Signalling: Many hormones and receptors are proetins
- Immunological: All antibodies are proteins
- Have an R Group, an Amino Group and a Carboxylic Group
- The R Group can be anything from hydrogen to a complex structure
- Carbohydrates
