  • Carbohydrates and Proteins
    • Carbohydrates
      • Glucose is a hexose sugar
        • Formulas is C6H2O6
      • Other monosaccharides are Fructose and Galactose
        • Isomers: same chemical formula but different structure
      • All monosaccharides are soluble so can be absorbed into the blood
      • They join together by condensation and separate by hydrolysis
    • Proteins
      • Large molecules (polymers) made up of amino acids (monomers)
      • A wide variety of roles
        • Structural: Muscle, skim, ligaments, hari
        • Catalytic: All enzymes are proteins
        • Signalling: Many hormones and receptors are proetins
        • Immunological: All antibodies are proteins
      • Have an R Group, an Amino Group and a Carboxylic Group
        • The R Group can be anything from hydrogen to a complex structure
