      • eg questionnaires and interviews, Consumer panels, testing, observation
    • advantages: business can design research in the best way to discover the information it needs, information will be up-to-date, information can be analysed easily
    • disadvantage: research and gathering the information can be slow, it is specialised work so businesses often need to employ specialist researchers which that can be expensive
