- Bukharin was another main contender for the role of leader in the country
- Bukharin was one of the younger generation of bolsheviks and was nearly 10 years younger than stalin.
- Bukharin joined the party in 1905 and was arrested in 1912 however he escaped to germany and had gained a large influence in the party by 1917
