      • There is an increase in pressure, so air is forced out of the lungs
      • Diaphragm relaxes, and moves back up
      • Intercostal muscles relax, so the ribcage drops inwards and downwards
    • Inhaling
      • There is a decrease in pressure, causing air to be drawn into the lungs.
      • Intercostal muscles contract, expanding the ribcage
      • Diaphragm contracts, and moves downwards
