- NHS (2015) estimate 8.5% of the population suffer from TBI however William (shattered lives 2012) estimates that 60% of young adult males in prison have some form of TBI "th young brain is prone to injury risk taking and is therefore more vulnerable to injury" - leads to ptoblems in attention and concentration and managing mood and behaviour

- part of the brain that is responsible for assessing risk and determining the right response
- damage to this part of the brain could lead to an aggressive/violent response to a threat - this could lead to assult or social disorder offences
- damage at a young age could lead to an inability to learn appropriate social behaviour. young children and teenagers may be unable to learn about offences such as shop-lifting, antisocial behaviour, vandalism
