- Cat donor

- dont use pregnant queens
- tested routinely for FIV/FelV/FIP titres
- checked for H felis H bartonella, dirofeloria babesia
- place cephalic catheter
- sedate with diazepam and ketamine or alfaxalone and sevo via mask
- butterfly needle in to jugular and withraw sample into syringe with anitcoagulant

- acid citrate dextrose (ACD)
- 3 weeks storage (fridge)
- 1ml per 7-9mls per whole blood

- use bloods immediately
- need 2 units heparin per ml of whole blood

- administer room temp, ideally 37 degrees
- do not administer through lines with hartmanns or any other solutions containing calcium
- take baseline TPR and monitor thoughout transfusion
- start at 0.5ml/kg/hr for first 15mins checking for acute reactions, then increase to 5-20ml/kg/hr or faster if required.
