- Biology Chapter 2 - Part 2
- Tissues and organs
- A tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function
- Organs are made up of tissues
- Stomach: -muscular tissue to churn stomach contents -glandular tissue to produce digestive juices -epithelial to cover the inside and outside of the stomach
- Leaf, stem and root: -epidermal tissue covers plant -mesophyll containing chloroplasts -xylem and phloem transport substances
- A tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function
- Organ systems
- Multicellular organisms are made up of organ systems
- Digestive system changes food from insoluble molecules into soluble molecules and absorbs them into the blood
- The digestive system is a muscular tube which includes...
- 1) Glands - pancreas and salivary glands produce enzymes (biological catalysts)
- 2) Stomach and small intestine - where digestion occurs
- 3) Liver - produces bile which neutralises stomach acid and emulsifies fats
- 4) Small intestine - where absorption of soluble food occurs
- 5) Large intestine - where water is absorbed from undigested food, producing faeces
- 4) Small intestine - where absorption of soluble food occurs
- 3) Liver - produces bile which neutralises stomach acid and emulsifies fats
- 2) Stomach and small intestine - where digestion occurs
