      • How the Allies divided Germany in 1945
        • In 1945, the allies decided to split Germany into 4 zones of occupations. The capital, Berlin was also split into 4 zones.
    • Why there was a crisis in Berlin in 1948?
      • Cold War was just getting started. eg. Czechslovakia fall to communism in 1948.
        • USSR and USA had DIFFERENT AIMS. USSR wanted to destroyed Germany  , as he demanded huge reparation from West Berlin. Whereas, USA wanted to rebuild Germany and genuinely improve the conditions so that he will have a trading panther.
          • In JAN 1947, Britain and USA joined their 2 zones (BIZONIA) to get their industries going. Bizonia joined with France to form Trizonia.
        • In MARCH 1948 the US offer MARSHALL PLAN.  Stalin forbade any countries under Cominform to take part.
          • By JUNE 1ST 1948, Britain, France and USA announced they wanted a new country of West Germany.

      • Stalin cut off all rail and road links to West Berlin.
        • The West saw this as an attempt to starve the West Berliners to surrender, so they decided to supply by air.
          • 275,000 planes transported 1.5 million ton of supplies, including chocolates, and a plane landed every 3 minutes at Berlin's Templehof airport.
