- AIM- To test whether high-functioning adults on the autistic spectrum disorders struggle to identify emotions from photographs of the eyes.
- METHOD- 16 adults volunteers with an autistic spectrum disorder were shown 25 photographs of pairs of eyes, and were asked to identify the emotions in them . Control groups of 50 adults with no diagnosis and 10 adults with Tourette's syndrome, carried out the same task.
- PROCEDURE- participants were shown 25 black and white photographs and then asked to chose between 2 mental states.
- To validate the eyes task as being a new way to test for autism an old test was done along side it to compare results this was Happe's strange stories.
