  • Bandura
    • Background; Social learning theory (observation and imitation)
    • Aim;To demonstrate that learning can occur through mere observation of a model and that imitation of learned behaviour can occur in the absence of a model.
      • IV; sex of child, sex of model and behaviour of model
      • DV; levels of aggression shown in room 3
    • Sample and Sampling Method; 72 children, Stanford Unverisity nursery and an opportunity sample
    • Procedure; Stage 1, exposure to model for 10 mins, after 1 min model became aggressive by saying 'pow' etc, Stage 2, exposure to mild aggression, toys were taken away from them, Stage 3, observed 20 mins every 5 secs, measured imitative aggression level
    • Results; aggression condition imitated more aggressive acts, girls showed more verbal aggression, little aggression in non-aggressive condition, confusion on the female model being aggressive 'who's that lady?'
    • Conclusions; Children learn social behaviour such as aggression through the process of observation and imitation. Some models are likely to be imitated over others depending on the sex of the model and child.
