    • What is it?
      • Takes place in plant cells in chloroplasts.
        • Chloroplasts contain a green substance called chlorophyll.
          • This absorbs the light energy needed to make photosynthesis happen.
      • 6C02 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
        • Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose + oxygen
      • 1) water comes from the sky, taken up from the soil by the roots. Gains light from the sun and the light is taken in by chlorophyll.
        • 2) The products of photosynthesis change into glucose and oxygen. Glucose is turned into food, oxygen is released.
          • 3 Uses of glucose: Respiration, strach and cellulose.
            • Glucose helps to nourish the plant.
            • Starch serves as a reserve food supply.
            • Cellulose consists of loads of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms.
      • It is the process of a plant producing glucose and emitting oxygen by taking in carbon dioxide and water.
        • Occurs in the leaves where light is taken in by chlorophyll.
        • Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction as it requires light energy to react carbon dioxide and water to produce glucose and oxygen.

      • Adaptations
        • Cells have lots of chloroplasts to produce as much photosynthesis.
        • Large surface area
        • Xylem and Phloem- water transported through xylem tube.
        • Air pockets help diffusion to occur; for carbon dioxide.
        • Many veins- plenty of water to be carried.
        • Stomata on lower surface so carbon dioxide can enter the leaf
      • Limiting factors
        • As light intensity increases the rate of photosynthesis increases.
        • As the carbon dioxide concentration increases the rate of photosynthesis increases.
        • As the temperature increases the rate of photosynthesis increases.
        • The limiting factors of photosynthesis are the light intensity, amount of CO2 and temperature, but it can also be the amount of chlorophyll in the plant's leaves.
    • Greenhouses
      • Helps to increase rate of photosynthesis as it helps to keep cold temperature out of it and winds.
        • Also stops them from getting drowned.
          • The glass on the GH relfects the sunlight onto the plant leaves. Makes the plants produce more of their own CO2, helping to increase the rate.
