- B6 - Biofuels
- Biogas can be used in the following ways:
- 1. Burned to power turbines and generate electricity.
- 2. Burned to heat water and produce steam for the central heating system.
- 3. Used as a fuel by cars and buses.
- Large scale biogas production uses "Sludgewaste"
- Waste from sewage works or sugar factories
- Uses a continuous flow method
- Biogas is made from 70% methane and 30% carbon dioxide
- Contains trace of hydrogen, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide
- 50% off methane safe to burn, 10% can be explosive
- Methane is sometimes released from landfill sites
- 50% off methane safe to burn, 10% can be explosive
- This make a landfill site unsuitable for many years so a new one must be established

- Biogas is better for the environment than fossil fuels
- Easy to produce and won't run out
- Its gets rid of raw sewage as it can be used as an ingrediant

- Biogas Digesters are made from plant waste and animal poo
- They need to be kept at a contant temperature
- Usually 30-40 degrees celcious as it is optimum for the bacteria's respiration
