    • Electronic Structure
      • Up to 2 electrons in the 1st shell
      • Up to 8 electrons in other shells
      • The group number of an element is the number of electrons in its  outermost shell
    • Charges of atoms
      • Overall atoms are neutral
      • Electrons are negatively charged -1
      • Protons are positively charged +1
      • Neutrons  have no charge 0
      • Atoms that gain or loose electrons through ionic bonding become charged and are now called ions.
    • Elements
      • Elements only consist of one type of atom
      • There are around 100 different elements in the periodic table
