- Atoms, ions and compunds
- General knowledge
- Neutron mass: 1/1836
- Properties of isotopes: similar chemical properies as these are determined by the relation shipbetween electrons and the nuclei and not neutrons. Isotopes have the same number of electrons
- Moles: amount of substance that has the same number of particles as there are particles in 12g of carbon-12
- Binary compound: a compound composed of two elements
- Diatomic molecules: elements which exist naturally as a combination of two atoms
- Ionic charges
- Nitrate NO3: -1
- Phophorus P: -3
- Silver Ag: +1
- Zinc Zn: +2
- Relative mass
- Mass defect: the difference between the mass of an atom and the sum of the masses of it protons, neutrons and electrons
- 1u: Standard mass for atomic mass of 1/12th of the mass of an atom of carbon-12
- Relative atomic mass: the weighted mean mass of an atom comapred to 1/12th of the mass of an atom of carbon-12
- Mass spectrometer: finds the percentage abundance of isotopes in the sample of an element
- Mass spectrometer steps: Sample placed: vaporization, ionization, acceleration, defelction, detection, and a greater abundance larger signal
- mass to charge ratio (m/z): relative mass of an ion
