      • Rearrangement reactions adjust constituent atoms within particular molecule. No atoms lost as waste, 100% atom economical
    • Addition Reactions
      • Reactants are added together, no leaving atoms or molecules so 100% atom economical
    • Substitution Reactions
      • Involves substituting one group for another group. Leaving group not incorporated in final product, so atom economy less than 100%.
    • Elimination Reactions
      • Involves removing a group from a molecule, will always be another product as well as the useful one, therefore not 100% atom economical
    • % atom economy = RFM of useful product/RFM of reactants used x 100
