  • Uses of Plant Hormones
    • auxins
      • gardeners want to make more plants of the same.
        • taking a cutting, the stem re-grows new roots to form a small root.
          • rooting powder contain auxins. this powder increases the success rate and helps grwo a new plant.
      • weed killer
        • auxin also sitmulates the growth, this extra auxin given can send the plant into uncontrolled growth killing them
    • gibberellins
      • used in the brewing industry
        • ends seed dormancy, speeding up germination of barley seeds to make malt.
      • promote flowering all year round
        • used in pot plants such as pelargoniums.
      • increase size
        • seedless grapes would be very small, however commercial growers add gibberellins to replace natural hormones and they grow.
    • ethene
      • contols ripening of food
        • growers harvest food not ripe as they can be transported chilled.
          • stops them being damaged and wont over ripe
        • unripe fruit is stored until needed.
          • warm temperatures and ethene is added to atmosphere to rapidly ripen fruit to perfect stage for sale.
    • uses
      • people have found ways to use these hormones to help grow plants.
        • for the garden~ horticulture
        • to provide food~ agriculture
