    • The Romans continued a successful progression of surgical knowledge after the Greeks
      • They used opium as a mild anaesthetic.
      • The Roman army developed more techniques to deal with battle injuries, each army camp had a sophisticated hospital.
    • There was a steady progression of Anatomy
      • Galen- a doctor to the Roman Emperor performed live dissections on animals (cut a spinal cord of a pig showing nerves control actions) He also wrote many books on anatomy.
        • Made a few errors as he got all his knowledge from animal dissections not human dissection.
