- Advantages of the DTM
- It gives a great visualisation of the present and future development of a country/area
- Its easy to compare a country with the DTM
- One is able to predict the future development of the country so policies can be made to reduce any unwanted changes
- For many countries, the DTM shows a very good understanding of their development
- Disadvantages of the DTM
- It might not be a valid model worldwide as it was originally created for MECC's
- It doesn't take indirect factors into account
- Factors such as education and the role of women aren't included which affect BR
- It doesn't give a time scale for the length of time it takes to pass through a stage
- It doesn't include the impact of migration on total population
