  • Advantages of the DTM
    • It gives a great visualisation of the present and future development of a country/area
    • Its easy to compare a country with the DTM
    • One is able to predict the future development of the country so policies can be made to reduce any unwanted changes
    • For many countries, the DTM shows a very good understanding of their development
  • Disadvantages of the DTM
    • It might not be a valid model worldwide as it was originally created for MECC's
    • It doesn't take indirect factors into account
    • Factors such as education and the role of women aren't included which affect BR
    • It doesn't give a time scale for the length of time it takes to pass through a stage
    • It doesn't include the impact of migration on total population
